Ideas for thesis topics

Commonly, we expect student to develop their own topics for a thesis, and we are available to brainstorm on potential topics that fit the students interests and skill sets.  We also post topics to this page that we feel are interesting for a thesis. 

Temporal Dynamics of Urban Parking Demand

Parking demand is dynamic. This thesis will examine how parking demand fluctuates over time, exploring how these patterns can inform transport planning and parking management. Potential research questions include: how parking occupancy varies over time; the impact of major events; the difference between observed demand and conventional planning assumptions; and the role of parking facilities in urban mobility systems.

The thesis can rely on data analysis, econometric modeling, spatial analysis, or a combination of these approaches. Depending on the student's interests, the work may also include the collection of additional data.

Students interested in this topic should send a brief statement of interest (approximately half a page) outlining their motivation, relevant study background, suggested research questions, and methodological ideas for addressing those. Please also include a current grade report.
