Our Mission for Networking
We promote sustainable urban mobility by advising practitioners and engaging in political discourse. As part of TUM's School of Engineering and Design and the TUM.Mobility platform, we foster strong internal cooperation and cross-disciplinary networking. We prioritize openness, transparency, and collaboration across sectors and cultures by building a strong Munich-based network and radiating out to EU and the globe. We disseminate awareness of our research through international events and publications that connect theory with practice through collaboration with citizens, cities, and industry.

MCube Cluster
The Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions (MCube) pursues the vision of establishing Munich as a pioneer for sustainable and transformative mobility innovations. MCube utilizes the unique geographical concentration of innovation actors in the mobility sector as a “learning region” to develop scalable solutions that serve as models for metropolitan regions in Germany and worldwide.
The long-term cluster has the potential to actively shape the mobility transition beyond the region. Building on existing cross-technological, cross-disciplinary, and cross-sector collaborations, MCube brings together key players from science, business, and society to realize breakthrough innovations with great economic impact and high solution potential for global challenges.
EIT Urban Mobility
Since January 2019, we have been part of the European innovation network EIT Urban Mobility, where we are working with 48 international partners on the mobility of tomorrow under the umbrella theme “Mobility for Liveable Urban Spaces.” The project will be co-financed by the EU with a total of €400 million between 2020 and 2026. The Chair of Settlement Structure and Transport Planning is working on various projects funded by EIT Urban Mobility. Another component of the EIT is the Doctoral Training Network (DTN), which we organize.

mobil.LAB
The mobil.LAB doctoral group was a unique interdisciplinary and international group of doctoral students and researchers conducting research on sustainable mobility in the Munich metropolitan region. Our research group was a joint program of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences (HfWU), funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation (HBS).
The research group was founded in 2011 and began its second phase with a new generation of scholarship holders in October 2016. Once our second generation of doctoral students has completed their research projects, mobil.LAB's activities will come to an end in 2021. It is not active anymore.
