Improved estimation of the urban traffic situation

Further development, demonstration and assessment of a regression-based method for an advanced determination of urban traffic state through the fusion of different types of traffic data. The approach should allow for the integration of all available and relevant traffic data whose quality inevitably varies.

Additionally, a concept for the maintenance of historical data should be developed.

The method will be tested with local data from strategic and traffic light detectors, with travel times detected with automated number plate recognition and with link-based speeds derived from position reports.

The improved determination of the traffic state represents a solid foundation for methods of short-term forecasting as well as for the manual or automatic appraisal and choice of methods, recommendations and strategies.
