Mike Batty: Generalising LUTI Models to Systems of Cities: Web-Based Interfaces to Simulation [pdf]

Mike was invited and planning to attend but had to cancel his participation due to other commitments. Nevertheless, he has prepared a presentation that he offered to be shared with other workshop participants.

Pat Mokhtarian: If telecommunication is such a great substitute for travel, why does travel keep increasing? [pdf]

We had asked Pat to present on the impacts of telecommunication on land use and transport decisions. While she has decades of experience in this field, she proposed to talk about attitudes in decision-making at the symposium instead. Because this is another topic that is highly relevant for large-scale modeling, she will present on it in Raitenhaslach. However, she recently gave a presentation on telecommunications and travel behavior elsewhere and offered to share that presentation with the symposium participants as well.

Keith Lawton: What should models of the future look like? [pdf]

Keith was invited to participate at the symposium but could not make it. After I had sent him the invitation, we had an interesting exchange of ideas what many models lack today and how models should develop in the future. With his consent, we share his ideas with the symposium participants.
