OTS 1.0: Optimized Transport System (completed: 2018)

Based on autonomous electric vehicles

Project Description

There is much evidence that the future of motorized individual transport will be characterized by forms of autonomous driving. The combination of automation and electrification of traffic and integration into public transport concept offers potential for a path to a clean, resource conserving and overall sustainable individual traffic. In order to capture the potential of these technologies, automated electric vehicles and their applications as a feeder to public transport, as well as the required transport infrastructure (C2I) and organizational and technical background should be integrated. As a result, a provisional description of the new mobility concept with the application cases, the necessary possible operating and business models as well as the first determination for the transport benefit will be presented. Following the concept phase, a test area for the developed vehicles and infrastructure is to be built at the neighborhood of Gartenfeld (Berlin). The Gartenfeld is planned as an autarky city quarter, and thus demonstrates both the need and potential for the integration of autonomous electric vehicles as a feeder for public transport.

The sphere of activity at the chair of traffic engineering and control contains for example:

  • Building a simulation environment
  • Simulation of base scenarios
  • Integration of the developed vehicle and infrastructure components into simulation
  • Simulation and analysis of the future scenarios
