Optimisation of school bussing in an integrated traffic concept in rural areas

Outline

Regarding public transport structures, school bussing is isolated by the rest of public transportation because of organizational and political barriers. In many cases it has got own timetables and an own line network. There are different financing sources for school bussing (§ 45a PBefG) and for the rest of public transportation.

In the rural areas Börde and Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt (a federal state of Germany) in the last decades the public transport structure was adjusted in a punctual way and not by an integrated traffic concept. These punctual improvements are caused by technical, infrastructural, political and demographic barriers. The aims of this research project are the installation of an integrated traffic concept, the integration of school traffic and the optimization of costs and the operating schedule.

To attain more efficacy and to minimize costs there will be installed different forms of demand responsive traffic. In addition, there will be pursued other aims like the minimization of pollutants and improvements concerning traffic organization.

After having implemented the network with its demand responsive traffic the results should be assigned to other administrative
