Dr. Mohamed Abouelela was one of the main experts contributing to the EIT Urban Mobility report on Integrating behavioural insights into sustainable mobility planning published in November 2025.
Despite their decisive role in sustainable mobility behavior, psychological factors have not yet been a major focus of discussions about mobility transformation among practitioners and decision-makers. Instead, aspects such as infrastructure, regulation, and financial and in-kind incentives have often been prioritized. The report, aimed at mobility decision-makers from the private and public sectors, provides an overview of key psychological models and their implications for the mobility sector. The report was develop with the support of Roche and Urban Places Lab, and it highlights main barriers to change as well as practical interventions to overcome them.
