We are delighted to welcome Christoph Bank to the Professorship Autonomous Vehicle Systems (AVS) at the Technical University of Munich. Christoph brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we look forward to the contributions he will make in his new role as a doctoral candidate.
Christoph earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Automotive Engineering from RWTH Aachen University. During his studies, he gained relevant industry experience through an internship at Mercedes-Benz AG in Untertürkheim, where he worked in Research & Development with a focus on high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation. He wrote his Bachelor’s thesis in the field of vehicle acoustics, focusing on the development of a graphical user interface (GUI) and a backend to simplify and automate experimental procedures.
Following this, he completed two Master’s degrees with excellent results: one in Automotive Engineering & Transport at RWTH Aachen and another in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Automotive Engineering at Tsinghua University in China. During his Master’s studies, Christoph worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) at RWTH Aachen in the field of automated driving, where he supported the communication of cloud-based multi-robot systems and the integration of geospatial data for 3D environment visualization. He completed his Master’s thesis at the Intelligent and Connected Vehicles Lab at Tsinghua University. His thesis focused on the system identification of vehicle models and the development of a data-driven algorithm for autonomous vehicles, enabling the design of a model-based lateral path-tracking controller even without a known vehicle model.
Since December 2025, Christoph has been pursuing his doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Johannes Betz at the AVS Lab. His research focuses on the evaluation of software stacks in the field of mobile robotics, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive evaluation pipeline.
We are confident that Christoph’s dedication and expertise will significantly advance our laboratory's research initiatives. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Christoph Bank as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.
Welcome to the team, Christoph!
