We are delighted to welcome Christian Oefinger to the Chair of Autonomous Vehicle Systems (AVS) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Christian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our lab, and we are excited to see the contributions he will make in his new role as a doctoral candidate.
Christian earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich. During his studies, he gained valuable industry experience through an internship at the BMW Group in Munich, where he worked in the field of high‑voltage battery system design.
Driven by his passion for automotive engineering and forward‑looking technologies, Christian completed a master’s degree in Automotive Engineering at TUM. During his master's studies, he focused intensively on battery systems and autonomous driving. In his master's thesis, he compared modular and end‑to‑end approaches to autonomous driving in challenging scenarios. This work provided him with deep insights into the evaluation of software architectures for autonomous driving systems and a solid understanding of the capabilities and limitations of current approaches. This knowledge motivates him to actively contribute to the vision of safe autonomous driving in the future.
Since December 2025, Christian has been pursuing his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Johannes Betz at the AVS lab. His research focuses on evaluating software stacks in the field of autonomous systems, with the goal of developing a comprehensive evaluation pipeline.
We are confident that Christian’s dedication and expertise will greatly benefit our lab’s research initiatives. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Christian Oefinger as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.
Welcome to the team, Christian!
