Munich, December 2025 – The 1st German Autonomy Summit (GAS) has successfully concluded at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garching, marking an important milestone for the German and European autonomy community. Organised by young talents from the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITS) and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), the summit welcomed around 60 young researchers and professionals from across Germany and Europe.
Held on 10–11 December 2025, the event brought together students, researchers, and early-career engineers interested in autonomous vehicles, autonomous systems, and robotics. Participants enjoyed an engaging program featuring technical talks, poster sessions, and structured networking formats, fostering open exchange and collaboration across disciplines.
A major highlight of the summit was the inspiring keynote talks delivered by Abhinav Valada, Cristina Olaverri-Monreal, and Bassam Alrifaee, who shared insights into cutting-edge research and real-world applications in autonomy and robotics. The lively poster session, including a dynamic “1-minute poster madness,” showcased the high quality and diversity of work from young researchers.
Beyond the technical program, the summit also focused on community building. A special Young Professionals (YP) and Women in Engineering (WIE) evening, combined with a visit to a Christmas market, created a relaxed atmosphere for networking and connection. Participants also had the opportunity to visit TUM laboratories of the TUM AVS Lab.
Overall, the first edition of the German Autonomy Summit was a clear success, strengthening collaboration within IEEE RAS and ITS and bringing together motivated young people passionate about autonomy. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all speakers, participants, and supporters, and especially to the dedicated organizing team: Lars Ullrich, Jane Jean Kiam, Ignacio Alvarez, Sevda Abadpour, PhD. Ing., Alonso Llorente, Simon Schäfer, Lars Grundhoefer, Ahmed Hussein, and Daniel Medina.
With strong participation, high-quality content, and an enthusiastic community, the German Autonomy Summit has laid a solid foundation for future editions.
