An intro of the scientific committee of mobil.TUM 2024

mobil.TUM 2024 |

The scientific committee of mobil.TUM 2024 is currently assessing the extended abstracts submitted in response to the Call for Contributions, which concluded in October 2023. To ensure the selection of top-tier abstracts, the Chair of Urban Structure and Transport Planning has involved international experts, enriching the committee with diverse knowledge and extensive experience.

In essence, the goal was to cover diverse conference themes within the Scientific Committee. These highly skilled colleagues offer expertise across multiple topics rather than focusing solely on one. They are experts from the academic sphere, working across universities and research institutes globally.

Today we want to present you some members of the scientific committee:

  • Ahmed El-Geneidy, a distinguished Professor at McGill University's School of Urban Planning and leader of the Transportation Research (TRAM) group, focuses on land use and transportation planning. His expertise covers transit operations, thorough analysis of travel behaviors (motorized and non-motorized), and precise assessments of accessibility and mobility in urban environments.
  • Cecília Silva, an Associate Professor at the Universidade do Porto, specializes in advocating for accessibility management and urban mobility policies while promoting integrated land use and transport strategies. Her research focuses on creating tools that bolster sustainable urban mobility through the integration of land use and transport planning. Moreover, she concentrates on Mobility Management, aiming to diminish car dependency by reducing travel necessity.
  • Frank Witlox, Co-Head of the Social and Economic Geography (SEG) research group at Universiteit Gent, delves into the exploration of travel behavior, sustainable mobility, global logistics, city development, and corporate locations within the Department of Geography. His extensive research encompasses the intricate dynamics of these domains, shedding light on the interconnections that shape contemporary urban landscapes.
  • Karst Geurs, a distinguished Professor of Transport Planning in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Twente, specializes in examining the intricate relationship between land use and transportation. His research focuses on modeling and assessing accessibility while exploring the dynamic aspects of travel behavior.
  • Aura Reggiani is an Alma Mater Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna), Department of Economics. Specializing in spatial economics and modeling, she focuses on studying (transportation) network evolution, complexity, resilience, vulnerability, and the correlated models and policies. Aura Reggiani boasts an extensive list of international publications and serves on the editorial boards of seven renowned international journals.
  • John Stone from the Melbourne School of Design at the University of Melbourne (Australia), is dedicated to enhancing public transportation efficiency. His primary focus is gaining deep insights into professional practices, political structures, and institutional frameworks governing public transport planning in similar cities across Canada and German-speaking Europe. Leveraging this knowledge, he aims to enhance the performance of public transport systems within Australian urban centers.
  • Thomas Schönberger's work revolves around urban transportation within the Smart City framework. His research at the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (German: Bundesinsitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung, (BBSR)) primarily delves into digitally transforming and sustainably reshaping urban mobility while intertwining global sustainability objectives with local system dynamics.

Besides these experts, numerous other international experts from interdisciplinary research areas are part of the scientific committees. ➡️ You can find all of the names on the website. The scientific committee is supported by a review board, which conducts preliminary checks on the submitted abstracts for formalities.
