The Professorship for Design and Operation of Public Rail Transport Systems (RTS) was established in September 2023. The main task of the research group is to develop and implement innovative approaches for design and optimized control of efficient and user-friendly rail transportation systems. In this context we deal with research questions in network design, traffic planning, capacity management, and traffic management. At the interface between fundamental research and applied railway engineering we combine domain knowledge with methodological competences in order to provide decision support to rail traffic planners and to contribute to strengthening rail transportation.
