SAVeNoW – Functional and traffic safety for automated and connected mobility – Benfits for society and ecological effects

Project Description

SAVeNoW is researching a digital twin of urban traffic using the example of Ingolstadt, in which relevant static elements (streets, buildings, traffic infrastructure, traffic rules), dynamic elements (road users) and framework conditions (time of day, weather) are mapped. With the help of this digital twin, questions of the domains traffic efficiency, traffic safety, traffic ecology and social acceptance are analyzed and answered by solution scenarios with associated measures. The "overall tool" works in two interlocking control loops of digital (real city) and virtual test field (virtual city model), which simulate the above domains in the form of "what-if" scenarios with appropriate measures and optimize the effectiveness of the measures. The basis is an IT-technically implemented overall architecture consisting of data acquisition, processing, modeling, simulation, evaluation, application and optimization. The overall model that keeps the control loops in function and develops them further should be socially acceptable, operable and economical.

Tasks of the Chair

In the sub-project of the TUM, central aspects of the overall project are researched. The Chair of Traffic Engineering and Control will be largely concerned with creating a concept for lane free traffic, validating it methodically, examining and verifying it in detail using a driving simulator. This driving simulator is also to be set up in the project, building on new control methods with a focus on traffic efficiency and traffic safety.
