Note: Master students from Environmental Engineering will be given priority, as this is a mandatory module within their study programe.

Objectives

After completing this module, the students are able to compute environmental effects of transportation and to design strategies for reducing those effects.

Description

In the first part of this course environmental effects of transportation such as air pollutants, noise and climate impacts are discussed. We cover mobile emission and noise sources, environmental and health impacts with a special focus on emission modeling. The second and main part of this course focuses on project work: the students do a complete emission modelling exercise including all the field work that is necessary for data gathering, the preparation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of the data. The goal is to enable the students to compute environmental impacts of transportation and to model and assess different strategies for their reduction.
