Based on interviews with mobility planners and people in vulnerable situations, we have recognized that aspects of mobility justice should be given greater consideration in planning processes. To lay the foundation for this, we want to impart this knowledge to future architects, engineers, and specialist planners during their studies. To put this into practice, we are offering a new seminar entitled “Planning for Mobility Equity” in the coming winter semester 2025/2026.
The seminar is being designed by the Research Group Mobility Justice at the TUM Chair of Urban Structure and Transportation Planning and aims to anchor the social dimension of mobility in teaching and practice in a sustainable manner.
We cordially invite organizations from science, business, administration, and society to become part of this interdisciplinary seminar.
What is the goal?
In addition to imparting knowledge, the seminar also focuses on raising awareness and creating social interventions. A social intervention is a targeted, creative intervention in social contexts that aims to draw attention to injustices and thus initiate a process of change. A social intervention thus makes visible what is often overlooked—and encourages people to think differently about an issue or to act accordingly.
How can you get involved?
The focus will be on the challenges faced by marginalized groups, whose perspectives are often overlooked in the urban mobility system. In order to create a concrete link to real problems, we are particularly looking for organizations that deal with issues of mobility, urban development, or social participation and are willing to contribute a task to the seminar. Possible tasks could include: Which group “does not have a voice” when decisions about mobility are made? How do homeless people get around the city when they cannot afford a ticket? How do visually impaired people experience everyday life on public transport?
The task does not have to involve a finished project or goal, but can be a problem, a question, or a blind spot from your professional practice. Based on your task, the students will independently develop a social
