The seminar “Planning for Mobility Justice” addresses key questions of mobility justice, equity, and inclusion in urban transport and planning. It is an interactive, practice-oriented seminar in which students work collaboratively in small groups to investigate concrete mobility challenges faced by groups vulnerable to exclusion. Each student group focuses on one real-world mobility challenge and explores it from a justice perspective; considering barriers, lived experiences, institutional frameworks, and potential planning and policy responses.
One fundamental element of the seminar is its co-creative format. The challenges addressed in the seminar are developed together by external local initatives, organisations, and partners, drawing on their lived experiences, professional expertise, or advocacy work. This ensures that student projects are grounded in real contexts and reflect current societal and planning debates.
External partners involved in the Winter Semester 2025/2026 include:
Mobility Department (City of Munich), Behindertenbeirat (City of Munich), Seniorenbeirat (City of Munich), Kreisjugendring München-Stadt, Hans Sauer Stiftung, Beratungsstelle Barrierefreiheit (Bayrische Architektenkammer), ReMix Project of MCube - Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobiltiy in Metropolitan Regions), Kultur & Spielraum e.V., Internationale Bauausstellung München (IBA-M), Schwalbe Stiftung.

Seminar Context and Evaluation
The seminar was offered for the first time in Winter Semester 2025/2026 as part of the TUM Project Week initiative, whereby it was organized as a semester-long course (12 weeks). Due to its project-based character, the seminar is designed as a learning and experimentation space, allowing for systematic evaluation and iterative re-design.
Insights from student feedback, partner reflections, and teaching observations are collected and used to further develop the seminar format, content, and methods. A summary of the evaluation results and key learnings will be published on this page during summer 2026.
