Objectives

After the participation at the lab, the student will be able to work on the basic challenges of each phase of vehicle concept development with supporting tools and design a coherent vehicle concept. The students unterstand the necessary iterative process of vehicle development and the relevant mutual interactions of the basic design in vehicle conception.

Description

In the lab, all phases of vehicle concept development are addressed using an example. The students are imparted knowledge about tools for vehicle conception. Independently, they should design a vehicle concept. The lab is divided into the following modules: • Introduction to the planning phase and presentation of the scenario • Preparation of a specification sheet and a project plan • Introduction to the definition phase • Creating of concepts with the help of simulations • Selection of a concept • Package design • Presentation of tools of the chair • Presentation of the vehicle concept and handing of a report

Prerequisites

• Attendance of the lecture "Road Vehicles: Design and Simulation" • Basic knowledge in Matlab / Simulink

Teaching and learning methods

During the last course, the individual groups present their developed vehicle concept in a presentation. As the result, the procedure for creating the vehicle concept and a package plan should be presented. In addition to this presentation, a report has to be handed that makes the individual steps of the development of the presented vehicle concept transparent. Since the presentation and the report are the result of all traineeship appointments, this group performance is 80% of the overall grade. The individual grading takes place with a written exam at the end of the lab. The exam questions the content of the steps of the Product Development Process which the students go through during the entire lab. The exam makes 20% of the overall grade.
