Welcome Raimo Sieber - New Team Member in the AVS Lab
We are delighted to welcome Raimo Sieber to the Professorship of Autonomous Vehicle Systems (AVS) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). With his strong background in engineering and computer science, as well as his extensive practical experience, we look forward to the contributions he will make in his new role as a doctoral candidate.
Raimo earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Automotive Engineering from Heilbronn University. During his studies, he participated in a dual study program with the partner company SCHUNK SE & Co. KG in Lauffen am Neckar, where he gained early practical experience in the design and development of industrial automation and robotics systems. Raimo then worked in the series development of automated driving functions at Robert Bosch GmbH in Abstatt, where he developed algorithms to improve localization and multimodal sensor fusion for Level 3 autonomous vehicles.
He continued his academic career at the Technical University of Munich, where he completed a Master’s program in Robotics, Cognition, Intelligence and further developed his theoretical expertise in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). As part of his Master’s program, Raimo gained intercultural experience abroad in Copenhagen, where he deepened his practical knowledge of autonomous systems and machine learning at the Technical University of Denmark. He wrote his Master’s thesis on hybrid reinforcement learning in collaboration with Siemens AG and the TUM Cyber-Physical Systems Group.
Since June 2026, Raimo has been pursuing his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Betz at the AVS Lab. His research focuses on AI-supported motion and behavior planning in mobile robotics, with a particular emphasis on foundation models for improved scenario understanding and decision-making.
We are confident that Raimo's dedication and expertise will significantly advance our lab's research initiatives. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Raimo Sieber as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.
Welcome to the team, Raimo!
